Open Call: Futurism — Reconsidered

Futurism, an early 20th-century movement originating in Italy, sought to break from tradition and embrace the energy of modern life. Artists such as Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, Umberto Boccioni, and Giacomo Balla celebrated speed, technology, and industrial progress, imagining a future defined by innovation and transformation.

More than a century later, we now inhabit that future. Our present world has far surpassed the industrial revolution with the internet revolution and now stands on the precipice of the AI revolution. Has humanity taken technology too far? The book “If Someone Build It, Everyone Dies” a critical work about what seems to be the inevitable Super AI by Eliezer Yudkowsky and Nate Soares certainly thinks so.

This open call invites artists, writers, and poets to reflect on how those early visions have unfolded. Has modernity delivered on its promises, or revealed unforeseen consequences? What does the future mean today, in a world shaped by technological acceleration, environmental urgency, and shifting human experience? Are we headed towards a dystopian world or are we already inhabiting one and if so, is technology to blame or is it because of some other variable like the global structure such as capitalism or simply human nature?
